Titles like “Rock Star” & “Ninja” are for the millennials and Gen Y and a few from Gen Z and titles like “Specialist” or “Expert” are more for the baby boomers & Gen X.
One’s designation is also determined based on the qualifications and skillset. 81% of the job seekers feel that this factor is very important and tops our list.
SALARY & COMPENSATION
2nd most important Factor would be SALARY. 67% of job seekers feel that this in-turn determines your Compensation and the hours of work you put in. It is essential that one is paid adequately, a job that pays well invariably leads to a better and healthier lifestyle. It enables the ability to collect financial and assets, it helps climb the social ladder and positions oneself in a society. The resources that are available to the organization contributes greatly to the salary one receives.
While it’s true that salary isn’t everything for job seekers while hunting for a job, the employees can’t pay their electricity bill with a free gym membership. Salary still trumps over benefits.
While a competitive salary is a good benefit for jobseekers, it also benefits the employers. Companies offering excellent wages have employees who are more productive and highly engaged. It also costs less to retain with an above-market salary than it does to replace and find a new one.
COMPANY PROFILE & BRANDING
3rd most important factor would be Company profile & Branding:
The quality of job one does varies from company to company depending on whether they are Start-ups, SME’s, MSME’s or Multi location companies spread across the country or globally like MNCs. 67% of the jobseekers feel that this is where company profile is crucial to them, single location companies may have just a product or two to market while an MNC will have a stream of products which require multiple skills from the employee. Job-standing is based on the brand status of a particular organization, the higher the brand value in marketing, the higher the demand for a position in the company.
LOCATION
4th most important factor would be the Location of the company.
Selecting an organization to be employed into varies for everyone, one may look forward to an organization having its branch offices in major metropolitan cities, it enables convenient transport and residential accommodation with an enjoyable nightlife. In todays world “Time is Money!”
60% of jobseekers feel that they don’t prefer to travel long distances and get stuck in traffic & lose a lot of commute time. People prefer to seek jobs which are closest to their homes. Quite a few organisations have “work from home” options & flexible working hours. In this age of digitisation & Online tools help monitor employees remotely which gives flexibility to distance, time & work life balance.
5th most important factor would be the years of Experience that the job requires. Your academic studies can be enriched by the new perspectives & business awareness. But experience candidates have learned thing practically and they have been thru situations which gives then a leading edge.
46% of jobseekers feel that promotions are based on skills developed in a particular stream and the number of years one has put in service of the same, knowledge based criteria and the skills required to handle a particular job comes with years of experience, the longer the post is held, longer it enables one to climb the corporate ladder.
EDUCATION & SKILLS
6th most important factor would be Education & Skills.
To reach one’s goal in life one needs to be equipped with basic knowledge and proficiency over the English language along with basic education in a reputed institute/college and acquire his/her skills for trade in a particular stream from a reputed university.
37% of the jobseekers feel that the choice of job / profession and occupation one selects depends on the supply and demand for the products which one will work on in the future, intellectual property is the skills/ knowledge one has gained through his/her years in a university, this is further expanded when one joins a corporate house and undergoes training to enhance his/her skill as an ambassador to the company and makes oneself an intellectual asset of the organization.

perks and benefits vary between organizations. Localised companies offer lower perks and benefits i.e. less/no bonuses, incentives for a job well done, commutation and security. On the other hand, MNCs offer limited working hours with weekly off, a good working environment, bonuses, provident funds and gratuity. MNCs also offer opportunities where one can travel and work globally. 42% of the job seekers feel that perks & benefits provided by the hiring organisation would influence their decision to apply for the job opportunity.
To conclude, various factors influence job seekers to choose one’s job based on one’s individual requirements. Given an opportunity one would prefer to work for an MNC and take advantage of all the perks and benefits which one is entitled to while on the other hand the designation, qualifications, personal preferences and external limitations, influences choice and requirements of work.
Recruitment Experts are always saying that todays market is a Candidate driven market. From an employer’s perspective, a candidate-driven market is something that isn’t always recognised until faced with the prospect of recruiting.
